Paul Harrington has served on the staff of Brannen Brothers
Flutemakers, Inc. for more than seven years. He apprenticed
under Janet Kinmonth and Jean Mattoon, and shortly thereafter achieved
the status of Master Craftsman in flute finishing. Later, he became
the manager of the finishing department at Brannen, supervising
both the finishing and head joint departments. As part of his responsibilities,
Mr. Harrington became the head of Quality Assurance for the company.
Throughout his tenure at Brannen, his duties also included testing
head joints, representing the company at regional, national and
international shows, and presenting Brannen products in exhibitor
showcases. His work at Brannen has earned him an international reputation
for excellence amongst flute players, repairmen and flute makers.
Since graduating from the University of Louisville with an M.M.
in flute performance, Mr. Harrington has performed professionally
on both flute and piccolo. Prior to choosing a flute making career,
he was also very active on the audition circuit, making the finals
on more than one occasion. Most recently, he performed with the
Boston Philharmonic at both Carnegie Hall and Bostons Symphony
Hall. He has been an active church musician for twenty years.
Mr. Harrington began teaching flute in 1979, and currently has
one student (his son).
Most importantly, Mr. Harrington began repairing flutes in 1974.
During a protracted hospital stay, he took apart his own flute,
oiled it, and re-assembled it. Amazingly, when done he had only
one part left over. He began repairing flutes and piccolos in earnest
in 1980. He has come a long way.
